T’were the Days before Christmas

T’were the days before Christmas and all through the earth,
Santa Claus superseded the awe of Christ’s birth.

Strings of colorful lights hung round most doors,
And enticing merchandise filled all the stores.
As the seasonal music flowed through the air,
Few thoughts turned toward Jesus, few hearts bowed in prayer.

No fear of God birthed society’s woe;
The behavior of men had again fallen low.
Sin was now glorified as everyone’s right,
And the witness of Christians a very dim light.

The real joy of the season no longer existed,
The message of Jesus, people long had resisted.
Families were broken, ridden with strife
And spurning Christ’s promise of bountiful life.

Withstanding the fact men denied His creation,
The Creator stilled ruled the affairs of the nation.
The crisis in culture showing man’s greater need,
To seek after God, not self-interest and greed.

In the midst of corruption of the once precious season,
The few who sought God could still find the Reason,
The True Reason to carol and be filled full of hope,
While most of mankind in great darkness did grope.

The same Hope had filled the first, old St. Nick,
The Hope of the Savior for souls that were sick.
And people who knocked on Christ’s door did still find,
The Face of the Savior, loving and kind.

One day unsaved men, burdened down so with cares,
Will stand before God who has numbered their hairs.
Humbly, they’ll answer for what they have done,
And why they rejected God’s gift of His Son.

Their lives men have chosen, ideas to follow,
Resistance to Christ leaves them empty and hollow.
The Truth they’ve denied, Satan’s lies they’ve believed;
In judgment they’ll stand, no longer deceived.

And try as they will at that time to change fate,
They’ll bow before God as He says, “It’s too late.
The message of Christmas you heard every year,
For the death of My Son you shed nary a tear.”

“You continually sought your own heart’s desires,
Warned as you were of hell’s frightful fires.
And as much as I loved you, My Love you rejected,
The result of your choice is to hell you’re subjected.”

But to those who believe and have followed the Cross,
Who’ve counted self-sacrifice as gain, not as loss,
To those God will give a seat in high glory;
A wonderful ending, instead of sad story.

To deny Christ in life is the ultimate sin,
Their place for eternity determined by men.
But thankfully, still, on this Christmas Day,
Men destined for hell are yet able to pray.

Asking the Father for forgiveness of sin,
Accepting the Savior, new life to begin.
Restoration to God through the Most Precious Birth,
A Babe in a stable, The Word sent to earth.

God’s gift of His Son, drawing men to Truth’s Light;
Remember the Manger on this Christmas night!
