Mercy – Prayer

Lord, you didn’t come into the world to condemn it, but rather to save it. We deserve condemnation but you have extended us mercy because you are kind and good. May kindness be the way we relate to others. May we take the log out of our own eye before examining the speck in someone else’s eye.

In all things may we recognize the mercy that you have shown us and respond with the same mercy to others. Lord, your kindness leads us to repentance. Seeing you for who you are and recognizing how far short we fall of your goodness causes us to see how much we need you. Thank you for loving us even when we are unlovable.

Lord, love is wanting the highest good for others. You gave your life so we could experience the highest good, which is the forgiveness of our sins, be cleansed and come into the presences of our Holy, Heavenly Father. May we understand the magnitude of your gift and value it beyond measure.

May we recognize the life is only good when we abide in your presence. Looking elsewhere for what will satisfy our souls will only separate us from you. May we become acutely aware when we are pursuing something other than you. May the emptiness of that pursuit weigh heavy on us so we turn back to you.

Lord, I see how little I value who you are and I am sorry for that. I don’t understand your greatness because I can only think of you in human terms. Please open my eyes so I can see more clearly into the spiritual realm and gain greater understanding of your character and majesty. Thank you that you are not like me, but are the Lord God Almighty. Thank you that you love me and in all things do what is best. You are God and God alone and I am grateful.

Amen
